In honor of today being 10/10/10, I will finally getting around to Jack's 10th birthday post!
A decade ago, I gave birth to a pretty cool kid. Jack has been a bright spot in our lives for double digits! We found out we were having a baby when we lived in Smithfield, UT and then moved to La Mesa, California where he made his entrance into the world. I had not known what it would feel like to hold my own little baby and you know what? I couldn't have ever expected it to be as wonderful as it was and has been!
He is a smart kid. I used to worry about him because he didn't get into things and make messes like other kids his age. I have since learned that he just processes things in his own way. A while ago we were on a walk and Jeffrey was splashing in the ditch beside us. I said to Jack, "If you had worn flip flops instead of tennis shoes, you could be walking in the ditch too." He replied, "That's o.k. Walking in the water isn't my idea of full enjoyment."
Jack is in 5th grade now and I encouraged him to try out for student council. Every student who wanted to would be on a committee and I thought it would be a good thing for him. He is now the president of the student council! Part of his job is to dismiss kids from their eating area in the lunch room...they raise their hands and if he approves their eating area as clean then they can go out and play.
He requested homemade pizza for his birthday dinner and I would have to say that's a pretty darn good looking pizza! And it tasted good too, except we had to scarf it down quickly to get to the Pinewood Derby! I took my camera, just didn't take any pictures! Oops...Jack and Jeffrey took 4th and 5th overall, and John won in the grownups races! We came home and had mini mousse pies, another request of Jack's.
A brightly lit cake and a brightly lit smile!
On the morning of Jack's birthday the boys reminded me that we had said Jack could have a birthday party that year. Now, I love to throw a party, but because of being so busy in other areas, I'm sorry to say I hadn't even thought about it! Well...we threw one together and had a few of his friends over on Thursday afternoon for an outdoor party. We ate lots of treats and then they played basketball, badminton, jumped on the tramp, did a relay course I had planned out, and played in the mostly dry creek bed. It was a pretty fun party!
It's strange to think what will happen in the next ten years...middle school, junior high, high school, college, a mission, dating, jobs, etc...

We think Jack is a pretty cool kid also. He is fun to be around (if he isn't reading a book)!! We do love you Jack.
Happy Birthday Jack. I remember when you were born. It was a good day.
I love the birthday dinner you chose. Wish I was around for that one.
Looks like he had a fantastic birthday. You are good at throwing good parties so I am sure it was fabulous.
