"I would be most content if my children grew up to be the kind of
people who think decorating consists mostly of building enough bookshelves."
Anna Quindlen
You might say that I love books. I especially love childrens books and to read them outloud, but for some reason we kept reading the same ones over and over, though I never tire of
Anyway, I have all these amazing books that for some reason I wasn't reading to my kids. I also had this great basket I got at a yard sale so I combined the two, and a system was born.
Because I am also theme oriented, at the beginning of each month I go through my books and put my chosen theme of the month in the basket. January was winter stories that have nothing to do with Christmas, February was all about love, and feelings, and family books. For March I put in fairy tales and nursery rhymes and folk tales (except that Book of Mormon book in the back...NOT a folktale!). April will be most of my Eric Carle books that have to do with baby animals and spring time. I haven't planned too much past this, but I have books on the elderly, books on the United States, poetry books, etc. The kids can read them as much as they want, and all the other books on the shelves too, but at naptime when I read to the girls, they can't pick a book we've already read. It has been so fun to get back to my roots and fall in love with my books all over again. I haven't ran into this problem so far, but I know my local library is just waiting for me to use them as a supplement! My boys join in on the read alouds, but I usually read to them when we are waiting to leave in the morning.

you have time to "Wait To Leave in the morning"? Give me some of that! Despite my every effort to "have some time", we are still drill sargeanting "let's move, let's move, let's move"...where is the secret in this?
I have a million books too. My neighbors think it's so weird that I never take my kids to library, but there is no need. I like your theme idea!
Kathryn,
Last quarter I took a children's literature class. If you ever need some amazing lists let me know. I loved it and read some awesome books!
