Peach Days

I'm not sure what you do for fun in your town, but here in good old Brigham City, we have

Peach Days!

It's good old fashioned small town fun with a peach queen pageant, a car show, craft and trade booths, an art show, kids parade, and a big parade the next morning.
Jeffrey and Jane rode on the float for their school, and Jack marched with the boy scouts.
Jack marched in the big parade the next morning so he really got in a good work out!  I took the other kids to a place my sister had staked out.  The big Parade is Saturday, the kids parade is Friday, and the spots are saved on Thursday.  Seriously.  They tell you in the paper what time you can set up, usually Thursday at 3, and the people start lining the sidewalk pretty early.  People are very traditional around here and always sit in the same spot. But we manage.

AFter the kids parade they do all kinds of kiddie games right there on main street.  They do a little something and win a little candy.  Jeffrey even won a peach in the peach walk. We always stop at The Main Street Church for free popcorn and water.  It's a little annoying that they have anti-literature concerning the church I go to, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, but we are taught to love one another, and free popcorn doesn't hurt!
After the big parade we (me and the 4 sweeties) walked around the booths a little then got a little treat.  Our ribbon fries were eaten too fast to get a picture, and the second plate was gone just about as fast, because they were de-lish-ous!  Glad some stranger took a picture of it and put it on their blog so I could show you what they looked like!  Buy them if you see them...you won't regret it.

Saturday night we all headed back to the stage and watched a piano recital...with 4 players playing each piece in a duet type situation.  It was fine, and we got rained on, but it was worth it because we had great seats for Jon Schmidt.  Free concert!  He's such a fun performer and an AMAZING piano player.  I took some video but this one is much better...

Two {other} good things came out of peach days this year...
I bought this book...
...which really addresses what your brain is all about, how you can change attitude and all.  It's a good one.  My sister is friends with the illustrator so I even had it signed!  Anyway, if you or anyone you know is a bit of a negative thinker this is a great book to read to yourself or to them!

We also bought this awesome bug made out of a fork.  We keep it on our tray in the middle of our table (did you spy it?  also, loving the zinnias!)  It has turned into our "Good News Bug" and makes the rounds every night at dinner.  If you have the bug, you have to say one good thing about your day.  At the beginning, Jack was not too into this idea, but just the other night asked if he could share four (4!) things.  Um, yeah.  It's been a great way to have dinner conversation that doesn't center on spilled milk, arguing over exactly how many green beans need to be eaten, and who's touching who's chair.

Hooray for Peach Days!
