Getting there is half the fun...

We were home long enough for Jack to attend a portion of scout camp.  Because it was just our ward they were a little more free to do what they wanted most days.  I had arranged to meet them at Aggie Ice Cream to pick Jack up since we were headed to The Beach later that day.
We arrived before the scouts so we had time to get some summer lunch!  YUM!

We were on our way just minutes late of our departure time goal.  We were treated to a double rainbow along the way...though I could only get this single part in the shot.  A rainbow is a good omen for a good trip, right?

We stayed in Hurricane that night then got on our way.  We ate at In-N-Out in Victorville then made our way through the terrible LA traffic.  Somewhere along one of those 6 lane roads John felt the bump bump bump that alerted him a tire on the trailer had a problem.  Well, more than a problem...it was destroyed!
Finding we had no tools with which to change the tire, he headed down the nearby on ramp leaving the rest of us on the side of the road.  Luckily we had a nice big shoulder with a protective wall next to us.  As John left I asked who would like to say the prayer...Katie Anne volunteered and, while it was not a pleasant experience, we did feel calm and assured of our safety.
A man from the Metro Freeway Service pulled up and offered to change the tire for free.  He was almost done when John got back.  We felt the spare was in good shape and we finally made it to camping space 12 at Refugio State Beach with prayers of gratitude!

The next morning we discovered big chunks of rubber coming off of the spare (ACK!). We found a tire store close by and John took in those two tires plus one and had them replaced.  The other two tires were only a year old so we didn't have to replace them.
An adventure, to be sure!

***Our first view of the ocean.  LOVE!***
