I wrote this a while ago and forgot to publish it...here you go!
While serving in my first area on my mission I learned to see analogies to the gospel in just about everything! A lesson/skill I will forever be grateful to my trainer for teaching me. I found a few this week and thought I'd share...
DIRTY POTATOES
For Christmas my dad gave each of his girls a couple of little toys for the kitchen. One of them was a little vegetable brush. I thought my old vegie brush was fine, but this little brush hooked onto my finger and looked easier and funner to use. The first time I used the brush I was amazed at how clean my potatoes got! Wow! I had been eating and feeding my family DIRTY POTATOES! For a long time, I might add. Sometimes we get used to something and it seems just fine. It's not until we really start to scrub that we see how things have really been. Now I have a choice to make, do I use my old brush which used to be just fine, or do I use the new brush which is so much better. I think that's a stupid question! But how often in life do we know how to be cleaner, but it is so much easier to just keep doing the same old thing. If you could actually see the difference of your soul would you ever do the same old thing? I think not. So, here's to CLEAN POTATOES!
GOOD HAIR DAY
Last Sunday I was set to teach a lesson in YW on living the gospel daily in our lives. I got ready and actually liked the way my hair turned out. As we usually do we went on a Sunday walk and the wind started to blow. Now I should have known that it would be windy. It's almost always windy. Anyway, my hair got messed up in the wind. I told the girls in YW that my getting ready was my part...living the gospel daily is my part...the wind is something that is almost always going to come. Trials are almost always going to come. Living the gospel doesn't shield you from life, but it does give you something to go from. It's always better to be prepared and do your part. Just think how bad my hair would have looked if I hadn't done it!
UNSTUCK SHINGLES
In December John reshingled our roof. It was a little risky to do in the winter, as the tar holding the shingles down needs the sun to heat it up to keep the shingles in place. We had a really windy night recently and a few shingles came off from the side of the house that doesn't get much sun. It's like the gospel. We can do the outwardly things but if we don't stick it down with a testimony of the Son, we are likely to not stick to it.

You've become so wise in your ol age. Like a sage or a buddhist priest from a kung fu movie. (I only make comments like this to make myself feel better about 30 creeping up on me)
I love it! I will never think of potatoes the same way again! Thanks for your thoughts, I relish them!
Thank you so much for sharing! I appreciate your thoughts and encouragement to look for the symbolism and testimonies that are all around us. Life truly is what we decide to make it.
I seriously love you so much!!! Matthew will love those, he's always making analogies to things like that as well!! I am going through Agren withdrawals! I need to see my li'l cousin Katie Anne! She needs to have the {Andrea} effect ASAP!!I hope you have a blast at Disneyland, take lots of pictures! Love you guys!!!
You're not a dog. OOPs! I mean.. you're not old.
Um, I thought I learned that skill from YOU! I don't remember seeing the analogies in life until you started pointing them out to ME!
What great analogies! I miss you! 'Glad that we have this connection!
Your blog is great. Mom
