Last Thursday an epic adventure began right in the yard of John's brother. See this group above? They packed their packs, buckled up, and drove to the Uintah's for the first of I'm sure many backpack trips to come. About a mile and a half in (if I have my story straight) they decided to camp, due to some rather ominous looking clouds that were already raining down upon them. They got tents set up, crawled into their tents, and the hail began! Watch the slideshow to see how big the balls were...pretty big! They moved camp 5 miles the next day to the lake they really wanted to be at. From there they took day hikes and did plenty of fishing.
Jeffrey here with the first fish he ever caught. He did a horrible cast and when he had a little trouble John thought he had just snagged the hook. When he went to help Jeffrey they realized it was a fish and the excitement began! He had a huge fish on the line another time but it got away.
Not so for Jack, who caught this whopping 17 incher. Way to go guys!
And here are my 2 boys, hiking out. John and his brother were just behind them, and wouldn't that have been an awesome picture. The brothers that hike together...

What an awesome experience for them!! I'm sure Nate is jealous!!
It looks like a blast..and a little bit cold. Hey kudos to your boys for the giant fish they got! David is super jealous. Share your camping spot! It looks fun!
Holy cow, that looks fun! I think the hail storm would have done me in, though. I'm glad they made it through that okay!
Was that a moose I saw? Was it? I have yet to see a moose in the wild except for the two seconds I saw one as we passed it on the road in Alaska! I even honeymooned in Yellowstone. But I won't take up this whole post talking about my NEVER getting to see a moose EVER! Um... nice fish!
Those pics look like they had a ton of fun. And the huge fish is just a little bigger than his smile. :)
This a great tradition. It promots awesome father and son bonding and fabulous memories. I'm going to encourage Mike to adopt this tradition with his boys.
That is so great! I am so impressed that your boys had backpacks and did that kind of hike. It sounds so fun. I would love to go too. I need to start some of these family tradition trips. You guys rock!!!
