The Christmas List

(I wrote this little ditty for this year's poem...inspired by the story Funny, Funny Mother). Enjoy!

The Christmas List

She’s making a List, checking it twice,
she wants to make sure everyone’s Christmas is nice.

She writes down all the names of her family and friends.
(at times it seems like the List never ends!)

At last, the List is made out, with ideas of gifts for each one –
now it’s time to get moving, get on with the fun!

For her son she starts knitting a beautiful sweater;
the neighbors get fudge, (homemade’s always better!)

Her daughters need dresses with laces and bows,
to wear Christmas Sunday so she sits down and sews.

Her husband is harder, what do you get men?
So it’s off to the store, she’ll find something then.

Next come the boxes – decorations to be hung!
When everyone helps, decking the halls is such fun!

Of course there’s the need to make Christ the center.
She’ll do all she can to let His spirit enter.

December moves quickly the checkmarks do to.
She looks through her List -- ‘course there’s still things to do.

She finishes wrapping, the presents look nice.
She cooks Christmas Eve dinner: Cordon Bleu served with rice.

She tucks in the children, helps Santa lay things out.
The big day is here -- she hopes no one will pout.

Christmas morning her labors have come to fruition.
She revels in following Christmas tradition.

“Merry Christmas to all”
with joy she will shout!
Just before…
She passes out.
