Lately Jane has been wanting to take a lot of pictures (making me want my OWN camera and turn this one over to the kids...but I digress). It has been interesting to go to download a bunch of my own pictures and find out what she's been interested in lately. Here is her dolly, sporting two new headbands, along with her pony, sporting a homemade saddle. What did I see first when I looked at this picture? The jacket left laying around on the couch.
She takes a lot, and by a lot I mean REALLY a LOT of pictures of herself. Some of them are quite interesting. This one shows off the headband (again) but also her cute new haircut. And how hard it is to really take a picture of yourself.
I am often the subject of her photos. I won't tell you what I like or don't like about this picture.
In thinking about perspective I had to laugh on Sunday as I left the primary room. I had just helped Jane give her talk which we wrote hurriedly that morning, threw in some pictures in from the Gospel Art Kit, and called it good. She had hardly practiced. I was feeling like the bad mom because when another certain little girl is asked to talk, it's clear that her talk was written many days in advance, and that she had practiced the talk on all the days leading up to the talk. Shame on me, I thought, I'll do better next time. At this point the dad of the little boy who gave a talk after Jane came out of the room and said, and I kid you not, "You are always so prepared with your kids' talks." Hah! I laughed and told him when we prepared it. "Well," he said, "I wrote Parker's during Sacrament Meeting! (Been there, done THAT!)
This last week my brother had a very serious surgery to repair a damaged artery in his leg. His leg, injured in a snowmobiling accident, is not in good shape, but this was definitely a bad situation. How thankful we all are for doctors and technology and prayers. Things look good, and in traditional golden child manner, he is doing quite amazing. Makes you kind of grateful for your body and being able to bend you knee, huh.
(hope it's ok I used this picture, Mark...)
And last of all, when I turned on the news Friday morning and watched the devastation and absolutely horrific video of the earthquake in Japan, I just sat and cried. This morning I saw this picture and just wanted to give her a hug. She needs so much more than that, but it's a start.
Sort of makes a jacket left on the couch kind of unimportant. Let's try to keep things in perspective, shall we?

I like the different perspectives.
The last is truly heartbreaking, makes me grateful for my simple life.
Kathryn that photo of you is cute, cute, cute! Look as I may, I can't see ANYTHING that you should dislike. I know we all do it, immediately notice our flaws. Isn't it too bad that we can't sometimes see ourselves the way others see us and just be more accepting of ourselves.
You are such a doll! I love reading your blog. I too have been so moved by the devastation in Japan. Tough, tough, tough.
