Most Outstanding

John and I went with Jack to his fifth grade 'movin' on' ceremony last night.  They fed us dinner (pulled pork sandwich, macaroni or potato salad, chips, and pop).
After that the kids got in position to rock the joint with their recorders.
A word here about recorders.  I think they are so fun (as long as they are being played and not just blown in to)!  I've written about it before, but my professor in college was truly inspiring on the recorder...and it was just a cheap-o one, not some expensive thing.  It's been fun for Jack and I to play a few duets even...though I play by ear.  So talented.

Enough about me...they played several songs, but I thought this one especially appropriate:

Then the awards started.  I talked to Jack before hand and told him I thought he was the greatest, no matter what awards he did or didn't get.  I was so proud, though, when they called his name as
MOST OUTSTANDING BOY
He's been going through some rough patches lately so this came at a great time.  He also got the presidential educational excellence award, a certificate for being on the student counsel (he was president!), and a certificate of completion of both fifth grade and elementary school.
I'm not bragging here, just stating the facts!
I love that picture at the bottom of Jack and his friend...who got "Most Knowledgeable".
(I had to look up how to spell knowledgeable.)

On Monday I went with Jack's class to the Intermediate school (for 6th and 7th grade, middle school is 8th and 9th here) for a tour.  I could tell all the kids were a little overwhelmed at the size of the school.  I mean, they have a gym AND a lunch room.  The cute little tour guide (a 7th grader) showed us her locker and said, "Mine's messy, but I would advise that you keep your's clean."  So cute.
I admit to being a little nervous for all the kids.  I think 6th grade is still the worst year of my life.  I hope it's the opposite for all of my kids!

Yay Jack!

Intermediate school sounds less scary than middle school.
