When we lived in Ridgecrest, gateway to Death Valley, I tried really hard to see the good in living there. I had great friends, a nice house, and lots of visitors. Life was good. But occasionally I got really homesick. I longed to be surrounded by beauty, and that town is not known for it's beauty, but rather it's brown views in all directions, with a few patches of green grass here and there. Most people just gave up on that one. So I got homesick...in the Spring I needed green, green, green. And in the Fall I longed for red, orange, yellow. I needed leaves to kick through, and crunch beneath my feet. We didn't move for that reason, but it is a nice bonus for me. Hello Fall!
But this year...
Fall is late. But it's coming...
The tree across the street was completely green on Friday.
It's now instantly ready for Fall!
Thank you!
John has every other Friday off, and we try to have dates on those days, with our chaperone, Katie Anne. I only wanted one thing this week...to see the Fall colors. I heard Ogden Canyon was pretty good...better than some others, anyway. So I planned our date to the Oaks. This is a charming little restaurant right in the canyon, with outside booths overlooking the Ogden River. The food never disappoints (though I only order one thing: bacon cheese burger, substitute swiss cheese for american, add onion rings instead of chips). It's become a sentimental little place to me...my dad and I stopped there once or twice on our way home from visiting my grandpa many years ago. I've also been quite a few times for girl's lunches with the Agren side of the fam. So, I love it there.
This date, however, almost didn't happen. John decided to climb a mountain that morning, and didn't get home until 12:15. He still needed to shower and the drive to the restaurant takes at least 30 minutes. I knew we had a limited amount of time and I had wanted to leave at 11:00. So, I was feeling a little....up tight and upset. I made the right and wise choice, however. I let it go, fed Katie Anne some lunch and we were out the door by 12:45. Good for me, good for everyone!
My 'dates' are just adorable, aren't they?
We found some good colors...
Snagged this one out the car window...

If you get up this direction, Porcupine Dam is stunning right now.
Those pictures are great!
