We have entered the project phase of the school year...
Jane got to go first. Her class has been studying fairy tales so to finish it off each child presented a fairy tale of their choosing in a way they decided. Jane chose to make a poster of Hansel and Gretel. Can you believe these display boards are only a $1 at Dollar Tree?
Jane pretty much melted down after we got her cute poster made. She just could not bring herself to believe that she could tell the story without it being pasted to the back of the board. I let her flip out for a while then talked about how flipping out NEVER helps (I hate when I hear advise that I need to hear coming out of my mouth).
If the house was on fire we would take action! If you have a presentation to give you take action! For some reason this seemed to be the ticket. She settled down, memorized it, and totally rocked her presentation. Thankfully her teacher had a sound system in the room so we could hear her.

I have been going in once a week to help in Jane's class. I actually teared up when little Emmanuel gave his presentation. He could barely speak English at the beginning of the year and would barely look at anyone. At the fairy tale extravaganza he recited the entire story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. It almost makes me want to get back into teaching some day.
