July 4th, and the day after July 4th

Ah, July 4th.
Independence Day!
But not from Laundry.  I had to do laundry but I didn't want to take any time out of any day to do it.  I also wanted to go to the fireworks.  I had learned from the Albertson's clerk Goleta's fourth of July plans so I knew if we did laundry the night of the 4th, we could see the fireworks at a pretty close range.  Another family had some laundry to do so we first loaded the washers, next wandered Kmart, followed by the switching of the wash to the dryers, a quick trip to Jack-in-the-box for shakes, and then, finding seats at an outdoor patio adjacent to a closed for the night restaurant to watch the fireworks.
Perfect!

Because we weren't right in the park we were able to pack up our unfolded dry clothes and get the heck out of there and back to the campground with very little traffic.  Nice!

The next day we had planned to lounge at the beach, or if the marine layer seemed there to stay, head into Santa Barbara for fish and chips.  Plan B it is.
Luckily everyone (but us) had a smart phone and looked up Diner's Drive-Ins and Dives to see if Guy had tried out anything local.  He had, and away we went with the Cannon's and the Carrick's.
Here is the menu board for Mac's Fish & Chip Shop.
(Click the link...the website is WAY more entertaining than this blog!)

While the Haggis sounded tempting, NOT, we went for THE WHALE.
Two of them fed our family, though we all wanted just a little more!
The seating was hit and miss and limited.  We stalked a table until they finally left, set the girls up at the bar, and waved across the room at our friends.

We walked to the pier next.  I just LOVED following these adorable girls holding hands.  Just melts my heart even now, and makes me laugh thinking of all the people Katie Anne got in the way of as she picked flower petals up off the ground for me to stuff in my purse for later.
At the pier we visited the absolutely ridiculously priced candy store, but man I love that rock candy.
The kids also watched crabs being prepared (aka killed) for dinner in a restaurant's window.
We saw pelicans, star fish, a seal, muscles (the aquatic kind)...

And there's Jeffrey.  That's not paint, sweetie.  Please get up.

P.S.  Thanks to Jack Carrick for some of these pictures!
