We are on our way...to our annual (as long as we can do it we will!) Beach Trip, 2012.
Many fires were burning in Utah, and all over the midwest, for that matter, and we certainly saw the effects of it as we drove. First the smoke from one fire penetrated the sky, then an hour or so later clouds on the other side of us were turning black. Our friends drove through a few days later and said you couldn't see any blue sky at all.

We stayed at the Hicken Hotel in Hurricane the first night. With my sister moving (the second time she's timed it with our trip to the beach) and my SIL watching 4 extra kids, things were pretty exciting.
The next day we had a great ride, as great as 7 hours in the truck with each other can be. We stopped often, ate at In-N-Out for lunch, shopped at Bass Pro Shops but left empty handed, and found an Albertson's to get dinner supplies. We bought a loaf of french bread and a rotisserie chicken, a most excellent dinner! We found a little park and let the kids burn off some energy. Katie Anne got stuck in a gravity chair that finally threw her, and Katie Anne's awesome mother laughed til she cried. I did hold and console her, but seriously one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time.
Our GPS guided us to our next destination, the Los Angeles Temple. They have some apartments there to rent for the night...the cheapest, safest way to stay in LA! We had our traditional breakfast of boiled eggs, cold sausage links, apple sauce cups, and juice, and yes, another loaf of Albertson's French Bread. The kids love it and so do we. We were able to do a little work in the temple while there so benefits all around.

We stopped in at the visitor's center which has been redone since our last visit. We love walking around the grounds of the temple...they are full of flowers, interesting trees, super tall palm trees, and fountains. I hope it's not sacreligious to make wishes on tossed pennies in the temple fountains!

We like 2 passing ships, seriously!
Really!!??? We would have loved to come up and hang with you--even at the visitors center! Stopping at the visitor's center is one of my kids favorite activities anyway. Sometimes we just run up between naps and dinner. Call ME!!! (you have to know I would read your blog and catch you for not letting us know :) )
And for the record...we are a cheaper place to stay than the patron apartments. Can't promises as comfortable or spacious, though. But we would have had a comfy king size bed up for grabs.
FUN!!!
