Something about not being able to leave the house and staring at the blank walls to make you want to make a few changes...
John gave me this beautiful picture by Minerva Teichert (click on her name to get a better pic of this...it's hard to capture all the color and detail on my own!). This particular print depicts the angels attending to the children during Christ's visit to the America's after His resurrection.
We had the glicee mounted on foam board, then John made the frame for me. I love it!
I decided last year that we needed the The Family: A Proclamation to the World posted somewhere in our home. (I was tired of our old one and hadn't hung it up when we moved). I wanted something different than what I had seen, but didn't really know what that might be. Luckily, I am always buying frames of one sort or another. One day I happened to see this frame in my stash and had an idea flash through my mind. This is the final result:
Sorry about the glare!
Next project! I had a calendar from the Museum of Modern Art a few years ago. I loved the pictures and wanted them all in my home! Sadly, I am not a billionaire. So I kept the little pictures just in case. One day at the Dollar Tree I saw some little canvas prints of birds. While I didn't want the birds, I figured I could paint the canvases and apply my beloved pictures. But how to hang them! That's a lot of little holes in the wall. Enter John and another Christmas present. He made these boards to hold my pictures. The best part is I can swap out the canvases or turn them in different ways to hang them how I want.
This arrangement is at the top of the stairs, making it kind of hard to get a straight on picture. The little round sign (someday to be painted black) says, "Everyone can CREATE something of substance and beauty." A quote from this talk by President Uchtdorf.
I had this little shadow box laying around so I decided to fill it. It has quite the array of differing items. A doll my home teacher brought me when I was just a little girl. Items from both of our grandparents. A prince charming I got on one of my first dates with John. A little bit of lots of things with personal sentimental value!
Upstairs we swapped out 2011'sChristmas card pictures for 2012's...
And I changed a few things around in the girls room. They were SO EXCITED to get curtain rods. But alas, I have no idea what curtains to hang. It took me 4 years to hang the rods so I figure I have a while. And I'm thinking that little shelf will look cuter with the girls pictures instead of strangers...
So...that's my little attempt to decorate. We won't be featured in a magazine any time soon, but it's comfortable and happy for us.
