Spotlight: John

John, 1 brother, and 3 friends headed to the grand canyon last Thursday.
They had quite a lofty goal in mind that included, well, lofty heights!
They were planning to hike the grand canyon from
rim
to
rim
to
rim.

Round trip they ended up going about 45 miles.  John and his brother stuck together the whole time, occasionaly running into the other guys.  They left their camp at 5 in the morning, and got back 23 hours later at 4 in the morning.
Here he is, looking fresh and energetic.

Some of my favorite pics...with people in them!
squint, squint...they're there!

Some of my favorite views sans people

Some of my favorite pics with living things...though I'm content to see them in a pic, and not up close and personal, like that rattler without a rattle!

Breathtaking.

Just where does that trail go?

Heavenly!

Here he is, looking not so fresh and not so energetic!
But DONE!

John trained really hard for this excursion.  He ran the mountain we live by often, getting to the top and back in about 2 hours.  He seemed to have hardly any pain after, just tired, mostly.  The other guys climbed out of the truck like they had just had visited the proctologist (John's words, not mine).
I shake my head when he tells me about these adventures but I am really proud of him and hope it
1. keeps him around a long long time
2. will someday motivate me to move a little more!

This really is an amazing accomplishment. Mike would love to do this someday. He probably will.
