We went to nearby Lake Mendocino. Lori, John's amazing cousin, had rented a spot for us at a motel along the river so we had a deck to place our things and a general gathering spot.
We stayed all day and literally had to drag the kids, and some of the adults, away.
What with the rope swinging...

boating...
and general cousin fun...
who could blame them for wanting to stay!
Finally the birthday treat I brought for myself and to share (4 batches of caramel popcorn) was gone and we were free to leave.
