So today I read some more posts from Wordful Wednesday yesterday. I read this post where she took a poem by Edgar Allen Poe and made it her own. I absolutely loved it! I thought it was very creative. When I read it to dh he said she cheated! But I still think she's a writer, and it takes skill to make something your own. Well, this got me to thinking. Is anything really original? Like when I scrapbook I'll get lots of ideas from other people, magazines, shows, etc, then I'll take what I know and make it mine. Is that cheating? NO! At least I seriously hope not or else I am a big cheater! So when have you cheated and made something your own? Where do you go for your great ideas! I love (but have not done anything yet) Etsy and many different blogs and watching Scrapbook Memories. That's all...

I think, like you kind of said, I do this with most things. I see something that I like (or think has potential) and then I change the things that I didn't like so much about it to make it mine. Inspiration comes from all sorts of places...I'm not sure anyone can call anything their own, really. We all got an idea that came from 'Aunt Betty' you got the idea from 'Aunt Suzie', who got the idea from....(my thoughts only...I know there are still the original inspiration getters out there somewhere. Just trying to make you, and me, feel better! :D)
When Joanna was painting duck pictures for a contest she was told she could look at other paintings and pictures to get inspiration. If she decided to "copy" one she had to change at least ten things so it would be considered an "original." I think we all get inspiration from everyone else. I know a lot of the things I do are just ideas I've changed around to fit my own liking or circumstance.
No way is that cheating. She took something and made it her own.
I too loved the poem. Thanks for sharing.
