I spy...

We were up bright and early yesterday morning to take Jane to the hospital where she had Bimedial Recession surgery. That is, they took the inner muscle of each eye, and moved it back several millimeters in an attempt to straighten out her eyes. Her vision has improved to 20/20 with the patch, but her eyes still needed to be straightened. This should help her keep good vision and 'look' normal.
She was such a champ through it all. Seriously, everyone was amazed at her willingness to just do what she was told. I just wish we could get the same behavior at home! :) Anyway, she really was so good. They gave her some medicine to make her loopy then took her to the OR. It was hard to see her wheeled away.
We started to wake her up about an hour after she came out of surgery. She drank a few sips of applejuice, then threw it up. We let her sleep, then gave her some water, which she kept down long enough to get released. They gave her a darling blanket, stickers, suckers, and a coloring book before we left. You can see the blanket in the bottom middle picture. She then threw up in the car on the way home. She slept on the couch for a couple more hours, then woke up at 4:00 STARVING! She ate and ate and kept it all down. Her eyes were really bloody but they are starting to look better today. She saw the eye doctor this morning and he said it all looks really good. We hope it will be the end of this saga!
So, here she is before getting in the gown. She obviously liked that little gown! There she is in her little hat, although she didn't leave it on long. John and Jane are there taking a nap, and then on the 'sick bed' couch. The last picture is from this morning, so you can kind of see her red eyes. I took a picture yesterday of her eyes but it really is kind of gross...sorry to all you sickos out there who like gross pictures! :)Posted by Picasa

What a sweetie! Surgery is zero fun, but it looks like she did great!

Scott's Sister's little girl just had this same surgery. Her eyes looked so gross. It would be so hard for me to let my child have surgery. My mind runs wild! I'm proud of both of you!

Wow! What a hard thing! I'm glad that the surgery went well AND that it's going to help her!

And of course you'll hear from me!! I didn't say I was going to stop reading everyone else blog! :)

Ahh, my oldest has had four of those kind of surgeries. He had the first one when he as 4, and then about every three years there after. I have known others who did well with just the first surgery and never had further problems. Guess we were just lucky. Good Luck!

Way to go, you are both troopers. I think it is always hard for us to let our kids go through certain things. I also like your previous post. I need to learn to laugh a little more at the stupid things.
